RTT Extender is committed to protecting your privacy. This extension does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. All functionality operates locally within your browser.

1. Introduction

RTT Extender ("the Extension") is a browser extension designed to enhance the user experience on RealTimeTrains.co.uk. This Privacy Policy explains how the Extension handles data and your privacy.

The Extension provides the following functionality:

  • Displays special train livery names alongside unit numbers on service pages
  • Automatically refreshes train service information at user-defined intervals
  • Enhances the presentation of train allocation data

2. Data Collection and Storage

2.1 Personal Data

The Extension does not collect, process, or transmit any personal data. This includes but is not limited to:

Personal information
Browsing history
Location data
Search queries
Analytics data
Usage patterns

2.2 Local Storage

The Extension stores one preference locally on your device using Chrome's storage API:

Refresh Interval

The time interval (in milliseconds) at which the Extension automatically refreshes train service information. Default: 60,000ms (1 minute).

This preference is synchronized across your Chrome browsers if you are signed into Chrome. This synchronization is handled entirely by Google's Chrome Sync infrastructure—the Extension developer has no access to this data.

3. Network Activity

The Extension makes network requests to the following endpoints:

RealTimeTrains Service Pages

When auto-refresh is enabled, the Extension fetches the current page content to update service information. This request is identical to manually refreshing the page and does not transmit any additional data beyond standard HTTP headers.

GET https://api.anytransport.uk/specialLiveries

Special Liveries Database

The Extension retrieves a publicly available database of train unit numbers and their associated special livery names. This request:

  • Does not transmit any user information
  • Contains only public train identification data
  • Is cached locally for 1 hour to minimize requests
  • Falls back to a local bundled database if unavailable

4. Chrome Extension Permissions

The Extension declares the following permissions. Each permission is used exclusively for its stated purpose and does not enable data collection.

activeTab
Allows the Extension to access the currently active RealTimeTrains service page to read train unit numbers and inject special livery names into the page content.
scripting
Enables programmatic injection of content scripts into RealTimeTrains pages. Required for adding livery names and implementing auto-refresh functionality.
storage
Used to store the user's refresh interval preference locally on the device. No other data is stored.
webNavigation
Monitors navigation events to detect when a RealTimeTrains service page is loaded, allowing the Extension to activate automatically on relevant pages only.

5. Third-Party Services

The Extension does not share, sell, or transmit any data to third parties. The only external service accessed is the special liveries API (api.anytransport.uk), which provides read-only access to public train identification data and does not receive any user information.

The Extension does not use:

  • No analytics or tracking services
  • No advertising networks
  • No crash reporting or error tracking services
  • No social media integrations

6. Your Rights and Control

Since the Extension does not collect any personal data, traditional data subject rights (access, rectification, erasure) do not apply. However, you maintain full control over the Extension:

  • You can modify the refresh interval at any time through the Extension popup
  • You can disable the Extension at any time via Chrome's extension management
  • Uninstalling the Extension automatically removes all locally stored preferences

7. Data Security

While the Extension does not collect personal data, we implement security best practices:

  • All network requests use HTTPS encryption
  • The Extension follows Chrome's security guidelines and content security policies
  • No remote code execution—all code is bundled with the Extension and reviewed by the Chrome Web Store

8. Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect any data from users of any age. The Extension is suitable for all ages and does not contain age-restricted content.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Extension's functionality or legal requirements. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be communicated through the Chrome Web Store update notes.

We will not introduce data collection practices without explicit user consent and prominent disclosure.
